Ram Subramanian

Photography has long been my calling. To me, a photograph is not a mere memory. I knew I was meant to be a photographer when I first realized that subtle realities become even more real when captured in a single photograph. That’s when I, Ram Subramanian, found my passion and established Mind & Shutter Photography. My work is greatly inspired by nature, its incredible landscapes and the scenic beauty that our planet holds. Every time I travel or go out on a stroll, I find myself immersed in the stories that nature has to tell.

The Story Behind My Lens

  • The Journey Begins

My photography journey began at a home away from home – in New Zealand. Migrating in 2003 to this scenically gifted country came as a blessing in disguise that not only introduced me to the art of photography but also helped me find my true passion. The year was 2010 and the moment is still vivid in my memory – a breathtaking sunset that I managed to capture through the viewfinder of my Sony point. What a visual treat with a color splash unlike any other it was! Much later in 2020, I completed a Certification in Professional Photography.

  • Photography with a Purpose

Regardless, the time between 2010 and 2020 did not stop me from exhibiting my clicks. And I was humbled by the response and decided thereon that my photography must come with a purpose. Therefore, to be able to give back to our community through my work, I donate 5% of the order values to charity when customers buy my photographs. Each time my customers see the image adorning their homes, they know someone, somewhere is smiling in gratitude. This brought me to the motto of Mind & Shutter Photography: Think. Feel. Create. Capture. Contribute.

  • The Journey Onward

Like any artist, I too have my favorite spots; however, I prefer travelling to newer locations and exploring our vast and beautiful planet through my humble lens. After having covered the majority of New Zealand and India, I now wish to capture the astounding beauty of Australia and other beautiful places in the world. I must add here that our plan to move to Australia is the icing on the cake and I am thrilled at the prospect of capturing the world in its raw scenic beauty!

  • Awards and Recognition

Every art needs inspiration and every artist is encouraged at the slightest encouragement. So am I! Getting “Highly commended” in Australian Photographer of the Year 2022 amnd being featured in the NZ Photographer Magazine among the “Excio Top 10” section was a moment to cherish. Indeed, the ‘Art of Eyre’ and ‘Sunset at Wharariki Beach’ picture holds a special place and story in my heart. Right from the journey to the location, setting up my equipment to getting that perfect click after a few failed tries was an exhilarating process. And such is the case with almost every picture clicked.

  • Drone Photography is the Calling

More recently, I am enthralled by drone photography and wherever I go, it is my constant companion. Through it, I have managed quite a few glorious and splendid clicks. Here’s the link to live the magnificence.

  • My Learning Curve

Through these years, I have realized that being a photographer has set me on the path of self-discovery and given me a purpose of how I can connect many with nature and its many bounties; that’s my driving force. Besides, getting recognition for my work on international online platforms, especially over the last five years feels like the sheer beginning of a thrilling journey filled with adventures.

  • And I Shall Carry On…

As a Travel and Landscape Photographer, I have not only found my peace and happiness but also learnt to appreciate the world we live in and all the spectacular beauty it holds. With my camera as my companion and the world before me to explore, I shall carry on for now, and forever…

Work with me.
